Business planning is a very important part of starting, running and expanding a business. As such, it should be taken seriously. You should take care to consider all of the aspects of running your business, especially the running costs. This will determine what you need to make to break even and therefore, make a profit.

Many people we speak to say they have their business plan in their head or they have filled out a generic business plan template downloaded from the internet. This is not business planning, although, it is right to think about planning your business you should then write it into a plan.

If you are looking to gain financial help from a lender they will ask to see your plan and if you use a template, in our opinion, that is worse than having no plan and, if you have no plan your chances of receiving a loan are slim to none. Unless, of course, you have assets to borrow against. This, however, should be detailed and discussed in your plan.
